Working in the Communications & Technology Industry for over 25 year, its fair to say i have a keen interest in technology and have for many year been a proactive supporter of innovation and communication tech progress. My passion was cemented when in the late 90’s, while discussing the concept of the Digital Revolution and what use case and benefits it might bring, that a colleague challenged me on the whole premise and concept of this revolution, suggesting it was nothing more than a passing fad, or industry buzz word and that we shouldn’t be too concerned by it…

It was at that point, in building my ‘case for the defense’, that i moved from a keen and interested observer to become a true advocate of innovation and a champion of digital transformation, both personally and professionally for our mutual benefits.

In Summary, my response was simply that technology, wherever we look from Facebook and iPhones through to Cloud As A Service, Digital Technology is here to stay and it will bring positive impacts to our lives. Sure, it wont be without challenges along the way both morally and disruptively it will challenge us, but like it or not, technology is now ingrained in our lives and I propose we adopt a policy of understanding and adoption where possible instead of flippancy or ignorance to the zeitgeist of our time.

About me..

Working in the Communication & Technology sector for over 25 years, I’ve already witnessed a huge amount of change and transformation during this time, both in my professional roles leading an IoT Communication team supporting the Utility Sector in the early days of Smart Metering protocols, through to my own interest of tinkering and building a Smart Connected home.

While progress to date has been vast, if we look at the Exponential growth in play today across a range of technologies and industry sectors… i’d say we haven’t seen anything yet!!!

My current research topics and focus are concentrated around the following points…

How technology will shape the workplace of the future and the future of our working lives from flexible working through to a full transformation to a Gig Economy. How our Education system must evolve, with some urgency! to ensure our children have the skills for both their own careers and our digital futures.The role video and UC&C will play in transforming our social and professional communications. How advances in AR and VR will impact a wide range of sectors from health and education through to communications in professional and social groups.Where and why AI and Machine learning will impact the workplace and our personal lives as consumers and citizens.

There’s no crystal ball on these points but with the right research and collaborative insight we stand the best chance to both survive and strive in the future of the Digital Revolution and Forth Industrial Revolution.
